The Saturday Amateurs play in the Premier 2 of the Lothian & Edinburgh Amateur Football Association (LEAFA). Currently managed by James Drummond and Stephen Coulter the team have become a well established LEAFA side.
The Saturday Amateurs first bore the name of Bathgate Thistle with the amalgamation of 2 existing LEAFA clubs, Bathgate Vale AFC and Bridgend AFC in the 2011/12 season. The 2 teams joined together and with Bathgate Thistle Juniors began the process of establishing a Community Football Club for the town of Bathgate.
Bathgate Vale AFC
The roots of Bathgate Vale stretch back to the summer of 1998 when a Sunday Amateur team was formed and played out of the Mason’s Arms pub in the town. The team played in the local Sunday morning Amateur League. First managed by Stan Coulter and captained by Alan Bishop the club latterly moved into the Falkirk and District Sunday Afternoon league.
They then took the brave and bold step of moving into Saturday Amateur football and entered the LEAFA in season 2006/07 where they took the name of Balbairdie Vale.
There have been various managers, committee members & captains over the years with Liam McKechnie, Martin Murphy, Margaret McGregor, Gary Brown, Stephen Coulter, James Drummond, Paul Gardner, David Bell, David McMillan, Mark Whelan, Jamie Mulheron, Jamie Lewis, Peter Bakcsh and Kenny Brady instrumental in ensuring the club moved through various forms and into the team they are today.
